BRIEF HISTORY:

  • The college is located in Claremont, California.

  • The Harvey Mudd College motto is " Scientia et Humanitas, " which means " Knowledge and Humanity. "

  • The student population is about 900.

  • The student-faculty ratio is 8 :1.

  • The institution was founded in 1955 as part of the Claremont Colleges consortium.

  • The college is named after Harvey Seeley Mudd, a mining engineer and philanthropist.

  • Harvey Mudd College was founded with a focus on engineering, science, and mathematics; 

  • The curriculum would focus on a broad-based education including the humanities and social sciences.

UNDERGRADUATE MAJORS AND MINORS:

  • Majors in 9 areas, including Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.

  • Many interdisciplinary majors that include Mathematical and Computational Biology and Joint Major in Chemistry and Biology.
