BRIEF HISTORY:

  • Located in Cambridge-Boston, Massachusetts

  • MIT’s motto is Mens et Manus, which translates into "Mind and Hand"

  • The number of students attending MIT is approximately 11,858

  • The student-faculty ratio is 3:1

  • Established to accelerate the Industrial Revolution in the US, MIT was founded by William Barton Rogers on April the 10th, 1861 – 2 days before the start of the Civil War. 

  • Due to the Civil War, classes were delayed until 1865, when 15 students enrolled for the first classes, held in Boston.
