BRIEF HISTORY:

  • Located in Durham, North Carolina

  • The school's motto is Eruditio et Religio, which means ''Knowledge and Faith''

  • The first time opened as Brown's Schoolhouse in 1838 in Trinity

  • It became the Union Institute Academy

  • In 1892 the institute moved to Durham thanks to the generosity of Julian S. Carr and Washington Duke

  • Duke provided a high amount of money under a circumstance that women and men in the institution would be equal
