Born in Crescent City, California, on July 29, 1946, Gary C. Kessler is a well-known figure in the world of digital forensics. Kessler significantly sculpted the field of digital forensics, with three decades of experience expanding over academic discipline and practical fields! He is a renowned educator, researcher and author, with most of his work in file recovery, cryptography and network forensics.
Earning his PhD in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University, alongside many different professional and academic roles throughout his career. He also served as an Associate Professor at Champlain College, Vermont, where he helped in establishing and leading the Digital Forensics program. His soaring passion for the field of digital forensics led him to teach in other institutions as well heavily influencing the next generation of cybersecurity and forensics professionals.
Alongside his brilliant academic work, Kessler is a certified, professional digital forensics examiner, consultant and expert witness, extending his expertise to law enforcement, legal firms and private entities around the world! Kessler has heavily and extensively contributed to understanding and implementing the best practices of handling and preserving crucial digital evidence making his rich knowledge very valuable in cases involving data breaches, cyber crime and digital fraud.
Not only has he done so much in the academic fields and research fields he has also written multiple articles, white papers and textbooks, with his work cited and accredited in large academic circles and industry literature! One of his most popular works is the co-authorship of An Overview of Cryptography which is a widely cited and referenced paper that has taught professionals and helped them understand encryption’s role in digital forensics and cybersecurity.
Kessler has been actively involved with numerous, well-known, professional organisations including the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA) and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). His valuable research in the digital forensics field has left a long-lasting effect on the world of forensics and crime and only continues to do so!
