BRIEF HISTORY:
- • Kyoto Imperial University was founded by imperial ordinance on 18 June 1897.
• It is the second university to be established in Japan.
• It was renamed Kyoto University (KyotoU) in October 1947
- • Located in Kyoto city, Kyoto, Japan
• It is the second most “most selective” university in Japan
• Kyoto University was ranked 55th in the world by Times Higher Education University Rankings in 2023, 46th by QS University Rankings 2023, and 26th in Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings in 2022.
• Kyoto University was ranked 44th in the Nature Index for its output in journals in the fields of Natural and health sciences research in 2023.

- • Kyoto University has 10 undergraduate faculties which include - Science, Medicine, Pharmaceutical sciences, Engineering and Agriculture.
• The university offers international programs (Kyoto iUP) for foreign students across all faculties which consists of a six-month preparatory program for Japanese language proficiency and offers modules in English as well.

CAMPUS INFO:
- • It has three main campuses: Yoshida campus located in Sakyo, Kyoto is the central hub.
• The Uji campus located in Uji, Kyoto houses research institutes and focuses on natural sciences and energy.
• Katsura campus located in Nishikyo, Kyoto is known as the ‘techno-science hill’ focusing on research and informatics. It is organized into four sections, each dedicated to different aspects of technological and scientific exploration.
