BRIEF HISTORY:

CTU was founded in 1707 as the oldest technical university in Europe

Its eight faculties are located in Prague

With 17 800 enrolled students, it has the student-faculty ratio around 8:1

The university’s motto is „Scientia est potentia“, which translates as Knowledge is power

CTU is a member of the EuroTeQ consortium of prestigious technical universities

In the early 18th century, the school taught various civilian topics such as optics, mapping, constructing mechanisms, geography, drainage etc.

In 1803, based on the École Polytechnique in Paris, emperor František I. signed a decree on establishing a Polytechnic Institute of the Czech States

By an imperial act in 1901, the university was accorded the right to award the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences

In the following year academic staff appealed to the Ministry of Education that women should also be enrolled

CTU offers undergraduate programmes at one school of business and 8 faculties, each focused on a different aspect of engineering

Approximately 70 accredited study programmes are taught in English

The most popular courses for the school being technology-oriented are Computer Science, Biomedical Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Physical Engineering, Quantum Technology, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nuclear and particle Physics, etc.
