CEITEC
WHAT IS CEITEC?
The Central European Institution of Technology was founded in 2011 by a group of Brno universities (Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, Mendel University, University of Veterinary Sciences Brno) and research institutes (Institute of Physics of Materials of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Veterinary Research Institute)
Researchers are divided into numerous research groups according to the focus of each participating research institute. The institute currently runs around 300 research projects, which are funded through agencies from the European Union
and the Czech Republic. The most prestigious of them all isthe ERC grant awarded to the most innovative researchers by the European Research Council. Currently, CEITEC has four holders of the ERC grant. More than 750 scientists working full-time at CEITEC publish around 600 publications annually.
WHAT DOES IT OFFER?
Their Core Facilities, laboratories where all the research is done, are accessible to internal and external users from the academy and industry via a reservation system. CEITEC Masaryk University is an independent university institute, where scientists conduct their research in areas of structural biology, genomics and proteomics, molecular medicine, neuroscience and other life sciences. CEITEC Brno University of Technology provides facilities for research in material sciences such as advanced nanotechnology, microtechnology, cybernetics for material science, development of methods of analyzing materials. Both of these universities provide excellent environments for studying PhD doctorate. To find out more information about CEITEC BUT click here:
CEITEC also organizes educational and other purpose activities both for students and the general public, such as conferences, lectures, and workshops. Examples are Seminar Series covering various life and material sciences topics, open days, Researchers' Night, Festival of Science and Technology or other practical courses for ambitious students.
Our young4STEM team had the amazing opportunity to visit CEITEC BUT in person and see their core facilities like CEITEC NANO (focusing on nanotechnology and advanced material). We interviewed some prospective PhD students to share their views on studying at a facility like CEITEC, some even from the PhD Students Committee.
